Wildlife Just Out Of The City

Leaving Adelaide with your expert 4WD guide, you travel through historic villages in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region to the almost eerie environment of Lake Alexandrina. Home to many species of water birds, this area is steeped in history, both of the early settlers and the original Aboriginal inhabitants. Traveling on from here, you explore the historic paddle steamer port of Goolwa.  

When the tides are right, you will travel along the deserted beach until you come to the mouth of the Murray River, Australia’s greatest waterway.  Next stop is Victor Harbor. This was once a whaling station and during the winter months, whales may still be seen frolicking offshore. But Victor Harbor has much more to offer. It is also home to Urimbirra Wildlife Park, an extraordinary wildlife sanctuary where you can interact with many of Australia’s native animals, including koalas, kangaroos and dingoes. 

A lunch consisting of local produce in a seaside restaurant is followed by some free time to explore or just relax at the beach. In the evening you will once again be met by your guide to make your way off the coast to Granite Island. Joined to the mainland by a long, wooden causeway, the natural rock formations of Granite Island provide an ideal home for a large colony of Fairy Penguins.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast, your guide will collect you to continue your explorations. Australia is known for its long, white beaches and by now you will already have experienced these around Goolwa. Equally extraordinary is the 4WD adventure, touring through Deep Creek Conservation Park. This park is home to an abundance of wild kangaroos, native birds and flora.

The dramatic coastline here provides a stunning backdrop to a real wildlife experience with magnificent views of Kangaroo Island. 

You now leave the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula and journey through the picturesque McLaren Vale wine region to experience and taste the diverse local produce before heading back to the city.     

Tour departs daily 07:00 and returns 17:30 the following day
