This special Banksia Adventure will provide you with rare access to some of Australia’s most sought-after destinations. Touring in the magnificent Flinders Ranges is an experience not to be missed – majestic ranges, rugged scenery and ever changing colour. The changing seasons bring a myriad of textures – in summer, for example, there are clear blue skies merging with a stunning purple haze over the mountains. A one-day scenic flight to Andamooka, William Creek and Lake Eyre will add to your Outback experience. An option is available to fly to Coober Pedy.

Day 1

Your adventure takes you north into the wine region of the Clare Valley. On your way, you will travel through old towns with quaint cottages and historic buildings. At Clare, you have an opportunity to visit one of the boutique wineries in this region. The legendary lilac haze of the Flinders Ranges looms ever closer and you are now in the habitat of Australia’s famous wildlife – not only and emus live here in abundance, but also many species of birds and reptiles. From here, your driver/guide will take you deep into the heart of the Flinders Ranges through vast sheep station country. There will an opportunity for a poignant stop at one of several ghost towns for some stories and photos. Wilpena Pound Resort is your destination tonight, where you will find glorious walking trails and excellent accommodation.

Day 2

Board your aircraft for an adventure flight, which will give you a perfect view of Wilpena Pound, the Heysen, ABC, Chase and Elder Ranges to name a few. Your flight takes you over Lake Torrens, to the world famous Opal-mining town of Andamooka for a short tour (Coober Pedy option available). This town is Opal mining in its rare form. During the interpretive Opal Tour you will be dazzled with colour and gain a better understanding the life of an Opal miner. Your plane then leaves for the quirky township of William Creek for lunch and a cold Aussie beer Don’t get too comfortable because it’s time again to board your aircraft for the next adventure. Fly over Australia’s largest salt lake, Lake Eyre. Gradually, in the distance, the Flinders Ranges rise out of the vast plains of the desert as you return to your accommodation at Wilpena Pound Resort.

Day 3

After your second night at Wilpena Pound, your expert guide will take you through some of the most unforgettable scenery in Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges, to the western side of the ranges. Travel through Pichi Richi Pass, following the historic Old Ghan Railway line back up into the high country, which provides a splendid panoramic view over the Spencer Gulf. Now, as you have the huge expanse of the Gulf on one side and the magnificent ranges on the other, you travel back towards Adelaide. The journey past historic ports provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of this trade route in by-gone days. Arriving back in Adelaide, you will have experienced both the wildlife and diverse landscape that is South Australian.

Tour departs Adelaide daily at 07:00 and returns at approximately 18:00 on the last day
