Day 1

Your adventure takes you north into the wine regions of the Clare Valley, through old towns with quaint cottages and historic buildings. At Clare we visit one of the many boutique wineries in this region and find out first hand why Clare Valley vintages are so popular.

The legendary lilac haze of the Flinders Ranges looms ever closer and you are now in the habitat of Australia’s famous wildlife. There is an abundance of kangaroos and emus as well as many species of birds and reptiles. Lunch today is at the oldest pub in the Flinders Ranges, ‘The North Star Hotel’. Wash the dust from your throat with a cold one before moving on through the vast sheep station country in the heart of the Flinders Ranges.

There’s a picture and story stop at one of several ghost towns that are testimonial to the trials and tribulations of those who attempted to tame the untameable. Wilpena Pound Resort is your destination tonight, providing access to glorious walking trails and excellent accommodation.

Day 2

Board your aircraft and begin your adventure flight, which will give you a perfect view of this amazing region. Under the wings you will see the outstanding geographical indentation that is Wilpena Pound and the Heysen, ABC, Chase and Elder Ranges, to name a few.

Your flight takes you over Lake Torrens to the world famous Opal-mining town of Andamooka for a short tour. This town is Opal mining in its rare form. During an interpretive Opal Tour you will find out about the less than ordinary life of an Opal miner, hear stories of sabotage and triumph and be dazzled with colour when you finally see the results of this hard work – the beautiful and mysterious opal.

From under the ground to over the ground, your plane now takes you to the quirky township of William Creek for lunch and another cold Aussie beer. This will set you up for the next stage of your flight, over Australia’s largest salt lake - Lake Eyre - and the Channel Country.

Tonight you stay at one of the oldest and most famous Outback hotels “The Birdsville Hotel”, in Western Queensland.

Day 3

After a hearty breakfast and an early stroll around the township you will reboard your aircraft to fly to the township of Innamincka, nestled near the banks of the Cooper Creek. This is a true Aussie experience.

From there your flight continues to Mungerannie for lunch and a few yarns. Mungerannie is on the famous Birdsville Track. This long stock route is arguably Australia’s most famous, bringing cattle from Queensland and the Northern Territory to South Australia.

Your aircraft then whisks you over the magnificent Gammon Ranges to your accommodation at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. Here you will discover native flora and fauna and walk over some of the oldest landforms on Earth. This area is unique.

Day 4

You swap wings for wheels today, climbing aboard a sturdy 4WD to take the famous ‘Ridgetop Tour’ offering some of the most breathtaking views imaginable: rugged peaks towering above Outback plains, cool creeks and mysterious waterholes sparkling within jagged gorges.

Once you replace the excitement in your stomach with lunch, you will travel south through sheep and cattle stations in excess of 1000 square miles, into the Mt Chambers and Lake Frome area, rich in Aboriginal history.

Then through more spectacular gorges to the quiet old copper mining town of Blinman, the highest town in South Australia and your destination for tonight. Enjoy some great Aussie tucker and maybe a cold beer or two in the classic old pub.

Day 5

Sadly, the return to civilization! On your drive through tree-lined Brachina Gorge you may spot the rare and beautiful Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies, skittering along the scree slopes.

At the western edge of the Flinders Ranges, your journey takes you to the coast, past historic ports and into the rich pastoral lands near Adelaide. The lushness of these surrounds is in stark contrast to the arid lands you have just been into.

Your adventure has truly taken you through the extremes of the Australian Outback.

Tour departs Adelaide at 07:00 on the first day and returns at approximately 18:00 on day 5.
