Day 1

From Adelaide your expert guide will take you through the nearby Adelaide Hills along a scenic route past horse studs, orchards and grazing pasture, to the Barossa Valley.  The Barossa Valley, Riverland and Clare Valley are very important wine-, fruit-, nut- and olive-producing districts. Each region has its own distinct character with charming wineries, delightful towns and villages, spectacular landscapes, river views and great local food and produce wherever you go.   Lunches will be in any of the many pretty villages that are dotted throughout the regions. A fantastic opportunity to sample fresh local produce in beautiful surroundings!   Stay overnight on the River Murray aboard the Majestic Murray River Queen paddle wheeler (on shore accommodation available) in the picturesque riverside township of Waikerie. Take the opportunity to just sit, relax and breathe in the tranquil fragrance of the gum trees, listen for the splash of feeding fish and calls of nesting water birds at sunset and the following sunrise.

Day 2

The morning is enjoyed relaxing at Banrock Station Wine and Wetland Centre. Soak in the magnificent views of their restored wetlands and woodlands while you taste The Reserve wines, the name of the premium wines at Banrock Station.  Take a short walk on the Mallee Meets the Valley trail through the Mallee woodlands down to the water’s edge and the first bird hide, your window to the wildlife and magnificent restored wetlands.   Relax and enjoy Banrock Station’s Australian cuisine, featuring native flavors, as they serve a grazing platter and light lunch matched with wines, followed by a sweet treat and coffee.   Spend the afternoon wandering around some of the other local wineries according to your taste then return to the Majestic Murray River Queen paddle wheeler for your second night’s accommodation with time to enjoy their onboard dining or alfresco café.

Day 3

Today your journey will take you through the habitats of the native animals and wildlife wetlands of the River Murray and the Outback countryside of Morgan and Burra. In the 18th century, the little town of Burra boasted the World’s largest copper mine. Now it is the home of the Burra Charter.   Stone villages extend the 27 or so kilometer length of the Clare Valley wine region.  Church spires soar above the rolling hills that cradle the town and ripple over the surrounding countryside.  Clare is Riesling land.  But there is also excellent Shiraz, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon to weaken the resolve of the most dedicated Riesling devotee.  You are in fabulous wine country and where there is great wine there is great food!   At the end of your three days, your homeward journey returns through the fertile plains of Adelaide bringing to an end a delightful excursion through the real Australian countryside.
